EDUCATION MISSION
Education:
The challenge of African community is to provide African children with the same
or better quality public education as their counterparts in other parts of the
world. NPU-USA supports efforts to provide quality instruction
and leadership, promote professional development, develop effective curricula
(pre-school through 12) through pilot projects, increase community involvement,
and enhance basic skills and further literacy enrichment. After-school
activities and intramural sports with academic components have received on-going
support to help fill gaps in the extra-curricular programming.
In recognition of the pivotal role of quality teaching and leadership, the
organization also supports recruitment and retention efforts, teacher training,
and principal recruitment.
Areas of interest include:
- Building classrooms, computer labs, libraries, science labs, and sport recreation areas.
- Stimulating creativity and productivity among young people and adults through programs that encourage learning as a lifelong process.
- Providing international volunteers to teach in classrooms, work in the health centers, libraries, and laboratories.
- Organizing and operating summer camps, youth groups, preschools, and teacher training facilities,
- Securing books, school supplies, and educational materials for the classrooms
- Pre-school through 12 curriculum development
- After-school programs
- Literacy enrichment
- Teacher recruitment and training
- Technology education
- Career and technology education programs
- Advanced academic/gifted and talented programming
- Post-graduate remediation curriculum
- Access to higher education institutions
- Alternative schools/programs, particularly high schools
- Principal recruitment, development and retention
- Transition from high school to community college and to two-and four-year colleges
- Working in partnership with the Nigerian Government, the United Nations, the
U.S. Peace Corps, non-governmental organizations, universities, and high schools
throughout the world.
