ABOUT NRI PROGRESS UNION-USA (NPU-USA)
BACKGROUND
Nri Progress Union-USA (NPU-USA) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization registered in the United States and Nigeria that supports quality education, healthcare services, and community development of Nri town and her environs. It was formed on Saturday September 2, 1995 at Days Inn Hotel in Towson, Maryland at a meeting called by Mr. Kenneth Aguolu to all Nri people in United States. The purpose of the meeting was for all Nri Citizens in United States to have a forum where we can know one another, help one another and develop our town.

- Building healthcare centers and support existing community hospitals
- Supporting basic health care programs to assure the well being of community members of all ages
- Promoting health awareness and preventive programs
- Family planning and reproductive health
- HIV/AIDS
- Hunger and nutrition
- Children's health
- Public health
- School-based health services
- Community-based health clinics
- Health care for the uninsured
- Providing international volunteers to work in the cottage hospital and health centers
- Working in partnership with the Nigerian Government, the World Health
Organization, American Red Cross, the U.S. Peace Corps, and non-governmental
organizations for healthcare improvements.
SOURCES OF FUNDS:
- NPU-USA will accomplish the above objectives through generous contribution of time, talent, funds, materials and supplies from members, individuals, foundations, and businesses. The organization has established a tax-exempt organization called Nri Charity Organization (NCO) under section 501(c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code. This tax-exempt organization will work hand in hand with NPU-USA to attract donors who will be eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with United States IRS Code section 170.
NPU-USA ACHIEMENTS SINCE INCEPTION:
NPU-USA has made some in roads towards achieving some of its goals and objectives. Some of the achievements are:
- Donation of $12,300 towards the roofing of the Ebede Primary School main classroom building and provision of toilet facilities
- Donation of $5,000 each to the two secondary schools in the town for provision of furniture, library equipment, and books
- Donation of $2,000 to Odinani Museum for burglary protection of doors and windows, sign posts, and other essential facilities.
- Donation of $15,000 towards the renovation and upgrade of Nri Maternity Center
- Donation of $5,000 towards the construction of toilet facilities for the Ebede Health Center
- Donation of $5,000 each to the families of our two financial good standing members who passed away since the inception.
- Launching of $1,000,000 (One Million Dollar) hospital project that will convert Nri Maternity Center to Nri Community Hospital
- Spent over $100,000 for the purchase and shipment of 40ft container filled with latest medical equipment and supplies for the upgrade of Nri Maternity Center to General Hospital Nri. Among the medical equipment purchased and delivered to hospital were Type III ambulance,15 electric beds, portable x-ray machine, endoscopic instruments, concentrator oxygen, pulse oximeter, ultrasound, EKG machine, anesthesia machine, vital sign monitor, hematology analyzer, 30 KVA generator, wheelchair, examination table, large medical refrigerator, and various medical supplies, etc. The equipment was delivered to Nri, tested, calibrated and fully operational by team of US trained medical technicians who were sent to Nri.
